Hsiu-Hui Wang

is a celebrated concert pianist, chamber musician, and educator known for her expressive and refined pianism. The Baltimore Sun praised her “graceful, buoyant” performance of Beethoven’s First Piano Concerto, highlighting the “appealing sense of lift” in her playing, while The New York Concert Review lauded her Gemini Piano Trio’s Carnegie Hall debut as “ardent, serene, and poetic.” Dr. Wang’s musical journey began early, performing the monumental first book of Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier at age 19 in recitals at Hartt School of Music and the University of Maryland. She has since performed extensively with renowned ensembles such as the Emerson String Quartet, and with orchestras including the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra and New Britain Symphony Orchestra. Her festival performances include the Aspen Music Festival, La Jolla SummerFest, and Yellow Barn Music Festival.

As a founding member of the award-winning Gemini Piano Trio, Dr. Wang has performed at prestigious venues such as the Kennedy Center, Weill/Carnegie Halls, National Taipei Concert Hall, and the Phillips Collection. The trio has been featured on National Public Radio and has performed and given masterclasses at institutions such as Princeton University, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Southern Methodist University, Chang Jung Christian University, and Soochow University in Taiwan. Their recordings on the Arabesque label have received critical acclaim, with the American Record Guide praising the trio’s artistry and interpretation.

Dr. Wang received her bachelor’s degree (summa cum laude) from the Hartt School of Music, University of Hartford, a master’s degree from the University of Southern California, and a doctoral degree in piano performance from the University of Maryland, College Park. She has studied with world-renowned musicians such as Raymond Hanson, Anne Koscielny, Moshe Paranov, Stewart Gordon, Gabriel Chodos, Thomas Schumacher, Arthur Winograd, David Finckel, Michael Tree, Alice Schoenfeld, and Menahem Pressler.

A dedicated educator for over thirty years, Dr. Wang has helped shape the careers of many successful students, with many winning top prizes in competitions such as the International Young Artist Piano Competition and performing at venues like the Kennedy Center. She has been invited to adjudicate piano and chamber music competitions across Maryland, Virginia, and Washington D.C.

Dr. Wang’s doctoral dissertation, Tracing the Development of the French Piano Trio, has been recognized by Maurice Hinson and Wesley Roberts in The Piano in Chamber Ensembles: An Annotated Guide, as well as by John H. Baron in Chamber Music: A Research and Information Guide. She has taught and directed the chamber music program at Goucher College and is currently a faculty member at Towson University and Howard Community College, where she was named the 2003-2004 Arts and Humanities Division Outstanding Adjunct Faculty Member. She is also the co-founder and Artistic Director of the Gemini Piano Trio Chamber Music Workshop, established in 2007.

Upcoming concerts in 2025 include a concert tour in Taiwan and several performances with the Trio Touché at educational institutions throughout Maryland.
